I enjoy this book, I first checked it out from the library and knew I needed my own copy. I am a huge fan of Louise Hay after reading this book and have some of her other works. Great for anyone on a spiritual path longing to connect with themselves and bring a sense of love and ease into their lives :) Affirmations are truly transformative!

This book changed my life. I know you've heard that said about a lot of books and I'm sure there are other fine books out there. But this one,You Can Heal Your Life, by Louise Hay, is the motherbook from which all others evolved. I was introduced to it in 1990, 26 years ago, when I was 42. At the time I was reeling from a pessimistic cancer diagnosis, the end of my marriage, and the development of Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. I'm almost 69 and this is the book that showed me how to live with and through all that and more. I've given away at least a hundred of these books and this one went to my new friend, Tina, who is excited about the changes in her life she has already made. I can't recommend it highly enough.

This was one of the hardest books I've ever read. This little book took me forever to finish. Not that the writing was hard to digest. It was the work and activities and reflections to make the corrections to bring healing. Which is all still a work in progress. Hey, I've lived 47 years of being broken so I can't expect to heal all that hurt instantly, but this gave me a great starting point and great tools to begin the work.It actually IS working too. I'm choosing to respond to situations differently, and to even look at them differently.My favorite example to tell people from the principles I learned in this book is being on a plane for over 3 hours with a crying baby. No, not crying. Wailing at the top of his or her lungs. As you can imagine, EVERYONE, including myself, was irritated. Some more openly so than others. But I came to a part in this book that talked about giving love to difficult people and situations and giving what you want to receive.So I started sending healing, loving thoughts to that poor baby and the mom. Because I knew she did NOT want to be THAT person, right? The one with the crying, inconsolable child. So I closed my eyes and just sent loving white, calming light to both of them. And prayers for comfort and calm.Guess what happened? The baby stopped crying. Did my thoughts do it? I'm sure what actually happened was the poor kid tuckered him/herself out from all that bawling, BUT...it erased my irritation and made me feel better. It felt good to give, even anonymously, like that. Much better to put positive energy into the world rather than feeding the negative.This book will be one I'll have to reread and revisit from time to time. And the work/exercises are still ongoing. Some I haven't had the courage to try yet. But I'm glad a yoga teacher mentioned this book in passing. It was an answer to an unspoken prayer to be led to a path of healing. I love it. I just wish Louise was still around for me to tell her I'm among her legions of fans now.

This book gave me the key to release all things negative. It took me six months. For years or decades I have struggled with depression. Every ten to twelve years it haunted me again and again - the past. I cannot stress too much that this small book contains the key 'I am willing to release ...". It sounds so easy and it is so easy. This key in conjunction with the 'Power of Now' from Eckart Tolle (books, youtube) was the way for me out of this vicious circle.I hope this review helps others to stumble upon it - it is so worth it. Everybody who is looking for the way out of these vicious circles knows what I am talking about. This finally worked for me.I am so thankful that Louise Hay brought it into the world.

I bought this book on a recommendation of a friend, thinking I would like to create a more positive attitude from within myself. But, after perusing the contents, and as a nurse, I find this book to be completely without scientific merit, shaming, preposterous, and possibly even dangerous and damaging to someone naive enough to take it as fact. For example, author states that the reason for senility in the elderly is "Returning to the so-called safety of childhood. Demanding care and attention. A form of control of those around you. Escapism." And Alzheimer's is caused by "A refusal to deal with the world as it is. Hopelessness and helplessness. Anger.". A diagnosis of either of these problems is devastating both to the individual and to their families. But blaming the individual for a problem most people wouldn't wish on their worse enemy in such a way not only places a big steaming pile of guilt on the patient, it could also create a family dynamic that is non-supportive and possibly even dangerous. Abuse of the elderly with such diseases is a very real problem in some families. Imagine if caretakers truly believed the only reason Mom has senility or Alzheimer's is because of the above reasons.Or, suppose you are diagnosed with cancer. Well that's because of "Deep hurt. Longstanding resentment. Deep secret or grief eating away at the self. Carrying hatreds. "What's the use?"". I find that analysis to be deeply offensive - - not only to cancer patients and cancer survivors but to their families and caretakers and support systems. How dare she! This book is a complete load of crap. Also - interesting note: I was able to return it for a full refund it for a full refund with shipping paid for by labeling it as "defective". Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere for positivity and life reform.

I was looking forward to this book because I believe in the holistic mind-body connection. However, this book is a bunch of made-up nonsense that encourages people to take responsibility for any harmful life experience and assigns mythical causes to every disease or physical symptom. I find this incredibly damaging and as a therapist and holistic practitioner I would NEVER recommend it to a client. Instead I recommend the works of either Dr. Bessel Van der Kolk or Dr. Carolyn Leaf.

Clients, over several years, offer up their bodies, their hands and even their faces for decoration. The photographer Fabio Paleari has documented the studio and the designs of the Leu's work in Lausanne and beyond. The results are phenomenal; no-one with skin can expect to be unaffected by his photographs, nor anyone who has admired the work of the tattooist, from Polynesia to King's Cross. Do not be a dinosaur and think because you don't use or value social media means it has no power on your child. Do not think this doesn't affect you if you don't have a tween or teen. These are the kids that will be in the workforce in twent years or less. If you expect to be alive then, this affects you. Peer pressure has ALWAYS been an issue. I'm an Xer. I remember peer pressure. Social media takes peer pressure and makes it the thing that gives kids their value. Saying NO doesn't feel empowering to a lot of kids anymore. Feminism has become all twisted into girls feeling forced to be sexy when they should still be children. Remember as a tween how you might notice a boy or read a bookmarked passsage in someone's mom's romance novel but then you might be playing with a Strawberry Shortcake doll or battling with a pretend lightsaber the next minute? Sexuality came about gradually and naturally. Not for these kids. They have access to porn at age eleven or twelve. Much of porn online is violent or fetishist which isn't what you want your child to think is typical sex. I'm not saying porn is bad. I'm saying it has no place in the life of a kid. Especially when they see this stuff daily and unfiltered. They become desensitized. They focus on how they LOOK and how many likes they get. It's a real mess. Girls in middke school photoshop their pics to look thinner & prettier. Intelligence does not get likes. The kids idolize the Katdashians and the number one life goal is "Be famous." Remember how it used to be that was a goal for the few kids who wanted to be an actor/actress and fame just was going to mean they were good at the job they loved? These kids are unhappy. They talk about how hard it all is. I began reading this book because of worrisome things I've noticed going on in instagram accts etc of teenagers I care about. This book explained what I was seeing, why, and that it's not an isolated group of kids. They are mostly all affected. Worse, the age that this is happening is younger each year. Everyone needs to read this book. Whether you have kids or not. Boy or girl. Male or female. It's not just the girls who are affected. The boys are just as affected. If you think this doesn't concern you, it will when these kids grow up and run the country. We need to have a dialogue in this country about what we value and what our hopes are for this youngest generation. I love technology. I got an iphone one the day it went on sale back in 2007. Loving technology does not mean we don't need to use our brains and think. Kids are not adults. Period. It doesn't matter that they are growing up. They are not GROWN. They need to be protected. People need to be parents and not best friends. Please. Please. Read this book. Easily the most important book you'll read this year. As a nation, we need to talk about this. Kudos to Nancy Jo Sales for such excellent research & exhaustive interviews. We need this book to educate us & start us talking.

I am a Teaching Pastor at a large evangelical church in Texas. I read this book after hearing Nancy speak at a Technology and Faith conference, and it inspired crucial conversations and sermons in our church. I can't recommend it highly enough for parents of both girl and boy tweens and teens. We've buried our heads in the sand long enough. We need to understand the dangers our children face in the online world BEFORE we hand them internet connected devices so we can help them navigate this brave new world in a safe and healthy way. Nancy's book provides the data and stories we need to make informed parental decisions. Her book is brutally and explicitly honest, and therefore not appropriate for younger children (the language and stories are rough). But that brutal honesty is exactly what parents need to face. May this book inspire life-giving conversations in your own home, ministry, or church.

The book is full of scenarios of what a lot of teenagers are into. I was looking forward to the conclusion after a while since the scenarios never seemed to stop. I wish the author also delved on what adults can do to help these kids or what adults can do to become more a part of the kids' life.

In reviewing the book â€œSocial Media and the Secret Lives of Teenagersâ€ by I found myself physically sick while listening to it. Initially this book stunned me with its bold crass language that was so unfiltered and raw. The reality that these words came from young teens was just heartbreaking. I decided to do the audio version of this book and found it very powerful to hear the words of these girls who were a part of the study in this book. The voices in the audio version screamed for our attention as readers to hear the heart of girls who are desperately seeking our help to save them from what they know they need rescuing from.I had decided to look at it from a position defending the opposite side to which this books position takes as a way to see the whole picture. I tend to want to root for the underdog in any competition and this book takes such a bold stance that I found myself wanting to fight for the other side at times when it was rooting against social media. In the end though there is no doubt that this book makes a bold statement about girls and women in society.Girls need advocacy and respect of their feminine role so they can have their childhood be protected and grow into healthy women of purpose with a sense of confidence of who they are. Their childhood is being ripped away and there needs to a way to find protection for these girls. I think this book doesnâ€™t really spell out the answer but is an excellent voice to say â€œHey, we have a problem here! Do something!â€. I do think however that this book could have made the statements it does without the raw language as a personal preference. I would rather know and listen to the heart of the girls messages rather than the language. I also think the scope of this research could have been more balanced in taking a look at teens of all backgrounds and look at the positive aspects of social media for some girls.
